Another celebration

We also celebrated Blair's birthday last weekend. Chef Daddy grilled ribs, and they were delicious! Uncle Randy was there to supervise.

Jenny made her famous chocolate cake and Aunt Avis helped her make it possible.

This was one of Blair's birthday gifts. (I don't think it is going to fit him.) I believe it is for someone that we will meet very soon!

She's 89...

Grandma is doing much better. We celebrated her 89th birthday in the hospital over the weekend. I think she looked great to have been in the hospital for 4 days and to be 89 years old! I sure do hope that I look as good as she does when I turn 89.

Grandma, thank you for your love, your encouragement, & your prayers through the years. We are so blessed! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GRANDMA!

Lord, Teach Us...

This has been a very thought provoking week for me. My Grandma (Gertie) is not doing well, a very close friend of our family is in his last days, & Uncle Virgil passed away this week. I'm sharing this letter that my Dad wrote about a month ago after visiting with Uncle Virgil.

April 24, 2008-
Today I had the privilege of visiting with one of the great men of our community. About 6 weeks ago, Mr. Virgil Strickland of Claxton found out that he had terminal cancer. I have always known Mr. Virgil as a gracious, kind, humble man who loved the Lord and served Him with a sincere heart. So it comes as no surprise, that in these difficult days of illness and emotional stress that he is still a gracious, kind, humble man who truly loves the Lord and serves Him. We are proud to be part of this family since Aunt Ann, Mr. Virgil's wife, is Miriam's first cousin once removed.
I write about him today because there are too few like Mr. Virgil. Aunt Ann said that in the 60 something years they have been married, she has not heard anyone say anything bad about Mr. Virgil and he has not said bad things about others. Oh, that we all could control our tongues and thoughts more. Mr. Virgil taught Sunday School many, many years and led in a Thursday morning prayer breakfast until just recently. Oh, for those who will faithfully serve and find ways to minister and serve the Lord, just because they love the Lord and love people. We live in a day when those who should lead and serve want to just sit and be served. When Mr. Virgil was a young man, he left his expecting wife and family to go and serve out country in a time of war. Oh, for men and women who are willing to sacrifice for causes that are more important than making a dollar or winning a ball game. Mr. Virgil's love is seen in his care for his family and his friends as he put others ahead of himself. Oh, for people who truly love others and who are real friends. Every time I was around Mr. Virgil, he made me feel important and loved. Oh, for that gift to be manifested in all of our lives.
I could go on, but space does not allow.
Mr. Virgil is truly a kind, white-haired southern gentleman, who knows the Lord and has faithfully served the Lord. He has fought a good fight and has kept the faith. His condition is terminal. But so is yours. Don't wait too long to get into the game. Time is running out.
Lord, teach us to number our days, and apply our hearts to wisdom. (Psalm 90:12)
Because He Lives,
Gregg

I just don't understand...

Sometimes I have a hard time understanding God's plan. I read this story last night, and I was really having a hard time with it. This morning, I read this story, and I ask God "why?" Please pray for the Pollock family and the Chapman family. Both of these families have incredible ministries, and it is so hard to see them suffering like this.

Strawberry Pie

Joy didn't just spend all day yesterday driving around to McDonald's and Dunkin Donuts getting free chicken biscuits and iced coffee. She also found a little time to make me one of my favorite desserts...Strawberry Pie.

And I must say...it was delicious!

Free

I guess I am just too much like my mother. I hear about something free, and I have to go check it out. I don't know what was special about today, but McDonalds was giving away chicken biscuits this morning and chicken sandwiches the rest of the day. It was free iced coffee day at Dunkin Donuts. I must confess that I got a chicken biscuit (not very good) this morning, and I went to Dunkin Donuts tonight. It was a good day!

Rock Band & Amish Friendship Bread

We took a long trip downtown last night to eat at Azios. Billy's favorite dish is the Ossobucco. I had never even heard of this!

Then it was back to our house to play rock band
Kayla joined the band, so Blair became the singer.
We also made "Amish friendship bread." Kayla brought a "starter." It is a bread mix that multiplies. We baked some last night, and it was yummy. I have a starter now that I have to take care of for 10 days, and then I will have 4 bags to give away. Who wants it?

Big Peach 5K

Scott & I had planned to run the Big Peach 5K this morning.
Jenny & Blair & Billy & Kayla are in town for the weekend, so Jenny & Kayla decided to run with us. We had a blast! Scott had the fastest time (of course) of 23 minutes.
It started raining just as we got back to the car.
Kayla's first race!

It takes a village...to operate the coffee machine...

Like I've aksed before, people really want her running the country?

I'm sure it's been years since she poured her own cup of coffee, much less gotten a cup at a local gas station.
